Contrary to published reports, the Pagani Huayra supercar will go on sale in America in the near(ish) future. The brand’s only previous model, the Zonda, was never federalized and it looked as though the unpronounceably-named Huayra would suffer the same fate, with Pagani failing to get an airbag exception from the U.S. government.
Earlier this week AutoGuide contacted Pagani public relations head Catia Pramazzoni who informed us that the information was not correct. Now GTSpirit has shed some light on the exact reason why the Huayra will come to the U.S. after all… if a little later than expected.
Apparently Pagani was prepared for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s refusal, but had submitted the request three years ago in an effort to buy time, and allow for development of the airbag system. While not yet complete, Pagani is working to meet NHTSA’s standards and so the Huayra could see a slight delay in deliveries with shipments arriving in early 2013, rather than late 2012 as originally planned.
The Huayra is powered by a AMG-sourced twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine making 700-hp, with a top speed of around 230-mph.
